INCI: N-Acetylglucosamine
N-Acetyl D-Glucosamine (NAG) is a naturally occurring nutrient that is an essential building block for joint cartilage, skin and connective tissue. It supports the healthy production of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which are found in all connective tissues, including skin, joints and cartilage, GAGs provide structure to cells while also maintaining their flexibility.
N-Acetyl Glucosamine is an amino sugar that has skin exfoliating properties similar to alpha and beta hydroxyl acids without the irritation. NAG can normalize the exfoliation of the stratum corneum, so it can be a good replacement for acid based exfoliation ingredients that might annoy sensitive or rosacea prone skin. Because of its stimulation of Hyaluronic Acid synthesis, glucosamine has been shown to accelerate wound healing, improve skin hydration, and decrease wrinkles. It can help brighten the skin (especially in combination with Niacinamide) and even out the complexion. It increases Hyaluronic Acid production in the skin, repairs sun damage, improves skin tone & hydration, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. In addition, as an inhibitor of tyrosinase activation, it inhibits melanin production and is useful in treatment of disorders of hyperpigmentation.
